 On Thursday at the D4 Section Championships we successfully defended our Women's title with a 62-61 win over second place Vista Del Lago.  This win was our Fourth Section Championship in a row 2011-2012-2013-2014

Tonight was a record setting evening for COHS Track and Field.

The Women won their 5th consecutive Section Championship.  The title came down to the last event of the day, the 4x400m.  CO entered the race with a 7 point lead over Vista and our Women need to finish top 4 in the 4x4 to secure the championship.  It was an epic 4x4 by Imani Parker, Kendall Herod, Miah Moore and Natasumi Mcgee.   

Our team had three Individual Section Champions. Natsumi McGee won both the 200m and 400m section titles, Mishaye Venerable won the Long Jump title and Tais Marinho-Gomez won the Triple Jump.  It was a true team effort with other scoring coming from Boateng and Joy Johnson in the 100m hurdles and Baoteng again in the 300m hurdles.  Kendall also scored in the 800m race by breaking her own school record by nearly two seconds.  The 4x1 of McGee, Howard, Venerable and Evy Banales scored with a third place finish and Sienna Jackson, a freshman, also participated and fell just outside the scoring.

 The Men also had success at the Section meet by securing event section titles in the 4x4, Javon Johnson, Elijah Whitmore, Perry Deguzman and Alex Van Dyke won the 4x400m, Alex also scored in the open 400m and Teddy Nguyen was section champion in the Long Jump

On Thursday at the D4 Section Championships we successfully defended our Women's title with a 74-70 win over second place Vista Del Lago.  This win was our Third Section Championship in a row 2011-2012-2013.  The Men finished 4th one point out of 3rd place.  Another year of track dominance by CO


 The 3 peat recap:

The Women's team was led by Natsumi McGee's three section wins in the 100m - 200m and 4x1 and a 3rd place finish in the 4x400m, qualifying for the Maters Meet in 4 events.  The wind was howling all night but Natsumi dominated in the 100m (12.34)and 200m (25.25) individual events and is currently the top seed for this week's Masters event in the 100m.  Fiyin Olusola also was part of the champion 4x100m team and added her own  individual championship in the 100m hurdles (15.09 - season best) a second place finish in the 300m hurdles (46.77- season best) and a leg on the 3rd place 4x400m team.  Lexi Becker provided the anchor leg of the champion 4x100m (48.84 - season record ) she also finished 5th in the 100m adding to the team scoring.  Freshman Amor Howard was the 3rd leg on the 4x100m and was also on the 4x400m.  Kendall Herod and Joy Johnson ran in the 4x400m on Tuesday to qualify the team for the finals.  Mishaye Venerable was the champion in the Long Jump (17'1.25") and ran a leg of the 4x400m finals (4:08.89).  Tais Marinho- Gomez added a second place finish in the Triple jump ( 36'2") to round out the team scoring.  Once again the title came down to the last event, the 4x400.  Our triple jumpers were competing when the 4x400 started and when the race finished CO had it's third consecutive Section Championship solidifying our dominance of the section.  All these athletes have qualified for this week's Masters Meet - the gateway to the State track Meet.  Great Job ladies!

The Men's recap

The men started the meet with a Section Championship by Teddy Nguyen in the Long Jump (22'2.75" - school record ) followed by a third place finish in the 4x100m (43.38) Jaron Moore anchored the team with Dwayne Darden on leg 1.  Kaelin Wilhite was on the second leg of the 4x100 and also added to the team scoring with a 4th place finish in the 100m (11.33).  Elijah Whitmore was a member of the 4x100, team as well as securing a 3rd place finish in the 400m  ( 49.98) and a leg on the Section Champion 4x400m team (3:23.86)  Alex Van Dyke was the final member of the 4x400m as well as providing his own individual scoring in the  400m with a second place finish (49.83).  Marcus Harmon ran in the trials of the 4x400 and Keoni Stallworth provided an inspired leg in the 4x400 finals.  All these athletes have qualified for the Master Meet starting Thursday.

Divisional qualifiers

 

We had a tremendously successful championship meet this week.  We sent a number of Varsity athletes forward into the divisional meet which is the next step in our march toward the State Meet.  Our JV teams had a tremendous amount of success as well.  The JV season ended yesterday and we went out with a bang.

This will be a little long but these athletes deserve the recognition for all the hard work this season

Mens team - JV

Sammy Gray and Keoni Stallworth were 1st-2nd in the 100m and in the 200 Sammy took another 1st and Keoni was edged out at the line taking 3rd.   David Alston made the finals in the 400m finishing 7th.  Andy Bowers finished 5th in the 3200, while setting a new freshman record in the event.   Derrick Griffith took 5th in the 110m hurdles and with a team of Rupert Wilson, Keoni Stallworth and Sammy Gray won the 4x4.  John Manganon finished 7th in the discus and set new PR's in both the shot and discus at the meet. Tanner Montgomery finished 4th in the triple jump and Marwan Nure finished 7th in the long jump.  As a team they scored 62 points

Mens team Varsity

Jaron Moore and Kaelin Willhite took 1st and 2nd in the 100m, they also teamed up for the All SVC 4x100m team with Dwayne Darden and Elijah Whitmore.  Elijah was champion/all SVC in all 4 events he participated in.  Elijah took 1st in the 200m and set a new school record in the 400m at 49.40 and also teamed with Aaron Ross, Javon Johnson and Alex Van Dyke in the wining/all SVC 4x4 team.  Alex Van Dyke also finished 2nd in the 400 and Aaron Ross was second in the 200m and 3rd in the 400m making the 400m a clean sweep for COHS.  Ryan Lewis was second in the Shot put and 5th in the discus.  Teddy Nguyen was 1st in the long jump and Dustin Khem was 5th in the triple jump.  Michael Anderson took 3rd in the 3200m and Nathaniel Aragon finished 6th in the 800m and Bryan Languasco finished 4th in the 1600m rounding out our scoring.  The team scored 115 points overall.

Womens JV

The team lead off with a victory in the 4x1.  The team of Fape Olusola, Evy Banales, Kylie Ures and Courtney Adams finished in a time of 53.19 taking 1st place.  Fape also finished 6th in the 100m and was on the 4x4 team which took 3rd overall with Kaitlyn Jones and Kylie Ures and Michelle Parent.  Michelle also finished 3rd in the triple jump and 2nd in both the 300m and 100m hurdles.  Jessica O'Donnell was 4th overall in the discus and Michelle Muniz and Natalia Sandoval were 5th and 6th in the 3200m.  Michelle also finished 7th in the 800m with Christiana Connors finished just ahead of her in 6th.  The team scored 48 points overall

Womens Varsity

The team led off with the 4th victory in the 4x1 completing the sweep of the event by CO.  Natsumi McGee, Fi Olusola, Amor Howard and Lexi Becker closed out the victory for the all SVC title.  Natsumi also won the 100m and 200m in all SVC fashion, Lexi Becker finished 2nd in the 100m finals.  Fi added two more all SVC honors by finishing first in the 100m and 300m hurdles both in season best times.  Joy Johnson finished 5th in the 300m hurdles and Abena Boatang who finished 2nd in the trials took a hard fall in the finals and finished 7th.  Joy also finished 7th in the 400m while Kendall Herrod was 6th.  Tais Mariho Gomez was 1st / all SVC in the triple jump and third in the long jump and 6th in the 100m, while our other dominant jumper Mishaye Venerable was first/all SVC in the long jump and second in the triple jump and 4th in the 100m finals.  Alexis Holt finished 7th in the high jump and Xela Van Dyke was 5th in the shot put.    The team scored 110 points overall

This was a huge success for the team and we are looking forward to building on this success with next years team
